Barber Degrees & Certificates

Students can complete the in-person Barber Program at our Gainesville campus and then be on your way to the career of your dreams. As a Barber student, you will have the ability to create your own path by selecting to either earn a Barber Crossover Occupational Skills Award (OSA), a Level 1 Barber Certificate, or a Cosmetology AAS Degree in Barbering.

  • Credits earned by achieving the Barber Crossover OSA may be included in the Level 1 Certificate and Cosmetology AAS Degree in Barbering and may also be used toward earning an Associate degree.

  • Experiential credits may be available to those who are already actively working in the barbering and cosmetology fields. To determine your eligibility for program credits, contact Division Chair, Stephanie Lindsey

To become a licensed Barber in the Cosmetology Crossover program you must:

  • Hold an active Texas Cosmetology Operator or Cosmetology Operator Instructor license

  • Complete the 300-hour barbering course in a TDLR-licensed barber school

  • Pass the required Class A Barber written and practical exams

  • Submit an application with the required fee

Barber Crossover OSA

A Barber Occupational Skills Award is available once a Cosmetology Operator license is acquired. Students will attend classes two days per week for 16 weeks.

Class A Barber Certificate

This certificate is offered through face-to-face classes. Students will enroll in four courses per 16-week semester and two courses in one 10-week summer semester to be completed with a total of 39 semester credit hours (SCH). Students must pass these courses successfully to proceed to the next course in the sequence. Courses may transition to 8 or 16-week courses in any fall or spring semester.

Cosmetology, Barber Concentration, AAS

The Cosmetology AAS Barbering Concentration, allows students the opportunity to become dual-licensed. Once the student receives a Cosmetology Operator license, he or she may apply for this concentration as a pathway to receive their Barber license. All of the courses in the certificate program transfer directly into the degree.

Career Outlook

Students will gain real world application and be ready to obtain a role in a well-respected barbershop or other cosmetology facility upon completion of the program.
