Having opened in 1988 and still playing today as the longest-running show in Chicago history, Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind is an ensemble experiment in presenting "30 Plays in 60 Minutes." Each two-minute play is performed in random order with an interactive audience. An onstage 60-minute timer keeps everyone honest. The audience votes on the order of the plays each night, as if ordering numbered meals from a fast food restaurant, and if they are not all finished in sixty minutes, the remaining plays go unperformed. The 30 plays to be showcased here present comedy, heartfelt drama, satire, performance art, satire of performance art, and everything in between. As a model of neo-futurist drama, Too Much Light... emphasizes truthful, direct communication between the actors and the audience.
