Tuition

Your tuition is base on the total number of semester hours and your residence (permanent address). There are four basic residency categories with associated General Use Fees and Out-of-District Fees outside of Cooke County.

Dual Credit students either do not have to pay tuition (though they do still pay fees) or receive discounted tuition depending on residency.

Residency

NCTC is a public institution which draws a portion of its funding from the State of Texas. Therefore, your tuition rate will be higher if your permanent legal residence is not in Texas and will be lower if you're a resident of Texas (or Oklahoma). This means your tuition rate will depend upon which of the following four categories you fit into.

  • In-District — Residents of Cooke County

  • In-District Branch Campus — Resident of Graham ISD Service Area

  • In-State — All other Texas residents as well as residents of Oklahoma counties contiguous with Cooke County who, due to reciprocal agreement, pay the same tuition rate as Texas residents.

  • Out-of-State — In addition to residents of states other than Texas, this also includes international students; citizens of any country other than the United States.

Verifying Residency

To verify residency for tuition purposes, you are required to complete a Residency Questionnaire form and may also be required to furnish documentary proof (such as a valid Texas driver's license) to prove your resident status. Residency status must be verified prior to the official date of record of a given semester.

If you’re classified as a non-resident when first enrolled, you’re presumed to be a non-resident as long as you’re enrolled, regardless of number of hours taken. To be reclassified to resident tuition status, you must provide proof of residing in Texas for one calendar year in which you didn’t attend an institution of higher education.

Determination of a student's legal residence for purposes of establishing the appropriate tuition rates is made at North Central Texas College according to guidelines pursuant to Title 3, Texas Education Code: RULES & REGULATIONS FOR DETERMINING RESIDENCE STATUS, Fall 1995. Students should be aware that these guidelines are subject to further revision. Copies of these guidelines, as published by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, are available for inspection in the Office of the Director of Admissions/Registrar. Questions or disputes regarding interpretation of these guidelines should be directed to this office.

Credit & Semester Hours

You need to understand clearly what is meant by the term "credit hours." When you register for a course, that course will be worth a certain number of hours of college credit for a semester.

Most courses at NCTC are worth three (3) hours of credit. However, there are courses that are worth from one (1) credit all the way up to six (6) or more hours of credit for a semester. You can tell how many hours of credit a particular course is worth by looking at the course identification number. The second digit in this four-digit number gives the semester-credit-hour value of the course.

For example, the English course ENGL 1301 is worth three (3) hours of credit, and the French course FREN 1411 is worth four (4) hours of credit. So, if you register for four three-hour courses and one four-hour course, you’re enrolled for a total of sixteen (16) semester credit hours.

Tuition Refund Policy

A 100% refund will be given only when a class is canceled by NCTC or if a student completely withdraws before the first class day*. For a class dropped after the first day*, refunds will follow the state approved refund schedule. Please see refund schedules below for information on long semester refunds as well as flex entry classes, summer semesters, and mini-mesters.

* First class day is defined as the official start date of the term the class is in. The official start date for each class can be found on the student's schedule next to the course details.

Please note that “class day” is ANY day that the College is having classes. This does not represent each individual class meeting days.

For example, a class that only meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays, does not get to count Tuesdays and Thursdays only as “class days” for the refund period. Since the college has classes on Saturdays, all Saturdays are also included in the calculation of the refund period (Saturdays count as a “class day”) except for the Winter-mester.

Labor Day does not count as a “class day.”

Refund Schedules

Please note: every day that the college holds classes is counted as a “class day”, not when your individual class meets. Therefore, the refund schedule is based off of the number of days into classes of that semester, not how many times your class has met.
