How to Apply

NCTC’s open-door admission policy ensures that every person who can benefit from higher education has the opportunity to enroll. Regardless of your current immigration status, we are here to help you achieve your educational and career goals. Thank you for choosing NCTC.

Submit Documents to admissions@nctc.edu

  • Official Transcripts

    • Submit your high school transcripts and all previously attended colleges/universities. Transcripts must be official, no faxed copies accepted. By hand, physical copies must be sealed in order to be considered official. Electronic transcripts sent directly from the institution or a third-party vendor are acceptable.

  • Bacterial Meningitis Shot record

    • If you are younger than 22, submit proof of a meningitis vaccination or exemption/waiver.

  • Affidavit for Texas Residency

    • The Noriega Bill/Texas DREAM act (HB 1403, Texas law (Senate Bill 1528) allows you to qualify for Texas residency status. If you meet the requirements for Texas residency, a notarized Affidavit form is required to be submitted to admissions for review. For your convenience, notaries may be available on campus. Contact admissions@nctc.edu for more information. Please do not complete the Affidavit form until you are in the presence of the Notary.

Step 3 — TSIA2 Scores or Proof of Exemption

If you do not meet the exemption requirements, you will need to register and complete the Texas Success Initiative Assessment 2.0 (TSIA2). Submit your scores or proof of exemption to the Admissions Office.

Step 4 — Register for Classes

Schedule an appointment with an Advisor. Please note a student must pay tuition in full at the time of registration or set up a payment plan with the Business Office. Failing to do so may result in the cancellation of a student's registration.

Step 5 — Student ID & Parking Pass

You can have a student photo ID and debit card made through the Business Office at any NCTC Campus, or you can request the debit card only and have it mailed to you! 

To set up your debit card features, designate your bank account of choice on MyNCTC > Student Services tab > Direct Deposit Designation on the left side. This determines if account refunds deposit to your NCTC student bank account or to another bank account of your choice.

Take advantage of student discounts at local businesses with your NCTC student photo ID card!

Get your free parking pass by going on OneLogin and selecting Parking Portal to register your vehicle. Parking permits are required for each campus, and will be needed to access the gated parking garage if you attend the downtown Denton campus.

Undocumented/DACA Financial Aid

While undocumented college students are not eligible to receive federal financial aid, they may be eligible to receive state financial aid by completing the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA).

Your eligibility for FAFSA or TASFA depends on your immigration status.

Fill out FAFSA

If you are:

  • A U.S. Citizen (regardless of parents’ immigration status)

  • A permanent resident with an Alien Registration Card (I-551)

  • A conditional permanent resident with visa type I-551C

  • An eligible non-citizen with an Arrival/Departure Record (I-94) showing one of the following:

    • Refugee

    • Asylum granted

    • Parolee (for a minimum of one year)

    • Cuban-Haitian entrant

Fill out TAFSA

If you are:

  • A resident of Texas as defined by Senate Bill 1528 (See Affidavit)

  • A recipient of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)

 If you have an F1 Visa, you’re ineligible for FAFSA or TAFSA and should contact International Admissions.

DACA Recipients who qualify for TASFA, may ask about working on campus through the Work-Study program. Texas College Work-Study is a work program where the student is eligible to earn up to the amount listed on their award letter. All jobs are located on various campus locations and pay minimum wage, currently $9.00 an hour. Please visit the Financial Aid Office for additional information or requirements.

Requirements and Application Process for TASFA

    • Demonstrate financial need

    • Graduated from a Texas public or private high school or received a GED certificate in Texas

    • May be required to register for selective service (see House Bill Checklist below)

    • Qualify as a Texas Resident for NCTC (See Affidavit)

    • Enroll or be accepted for enrollment in an associate degree or credit certificate program (at least 6 credit hours for most programs)

    • Maintain the Financial Aid Standard of Academic Progress

    • Enrollment and attendance in all classes each semester must be established prior to the census date of each class

  • Applications for the incoming school year open October 1st, the priority deadline is January 15th. Submit the TASFA by the priority deadline to ensure sufficient time to review your application and award you.

      • The TASFA Application can be found in Forms under TASFA Texas Application for State Financial Aid

      • A checklist of Required documents can be found in Forms under House Bill Checklist in order to complete the application.

    2. Submit the application to Financial Aid via finaid@nctc.edu or in person.

      • You may be asked to submit supplemental information.

    3. Financial Aid will send instructions on how to access the Financial Aid Portal. Once financial aid has been awarded, you will need to accept or decline it in the portal.
